Food (including tobacco) Processing

As a city with abundant resources of water and fertile land, food niahufacturirig industry (including beverage and tobacco manufacturing) occupies an important position in Chengdu. But currently, many of food manufacturing companies in Chengdu remain small in size. By the end of 2005, there were only enterprises above the designated size (referring to all stale-owned enterprises and private one with annual sales of RMB 5 million). The total assets of these enterprises reached RMB 21.32 billion.

In 2006, the value-added industrial output of enterprises above the designated size reached RMB 13.01 billion, 24.9% higher than previous year.

As a pillar industry of Chengdu, food industry was very important to Chengdu’s industry, and the proportion of the indicators of food industrial enterprises to all industrial enterprises had always been large.

At sub-sector level, value-added industrial output of tobacco was the highest. In 2006, it reached RMB 4.4 billion, 14.5% higher than 2005. Value-added industrial output of food manufacturing reached RMB 2.1 billion, 65.5% higher than 2005. Value-added industrial output of liquor and beverage manufacturing was RMB 2.8 billion, 55.9% higher than 2005. Value-added industrial output of processing of food from agriculture reached RMB 3.7 billion, 4.9% higher than 2005.
